I thought it was successful because it printed more than one line of the alignment page so I came here to brag, thinking I was a genius. Great, right? No, stupid! Could have purchased a new printer for the money and time spent on this thing.Īctually, the alignment failed. Alignment is working again! $100 printheads were probably unnecessary, $125 of ink is all but gone. Scrubbed it with alcohol, Windex and cotton cloth before I finally got the grime off.
Sure enough it had some kind of semi transparent film/grime on it. I located it on the right side of the printhead carriage and removed it. I figured that maybe the alignment sensor is dirty. Now that my new ink cartridges are almost depleted because of the repeated cleaning, I am not happy. Purchased two new printheads as per HP guidance. Cleaned all levels of printhead cleaning, but alignment would still fail.Ĭleaned printheads (removed and cleaned with hot water, then tried alcohol) - started working again, but Alignment Failed message always appeared when printing from the computer. Installed new ink cartridges as they were nearly depleted. Just started having problems with the printing (scanner feed mechanism failed two years ago). The clock is ticking even before you open the box.I have had this printer since 2008. I provided the real purchase date documentation to HP (yes newegg history!) but have not heard back so my conclusion is that HP's products are so poorly made that they are forced to shorten the warranty time they have a file to 8-9 months and hope you don't notice. It affords you months less time under warranty than you actually have. June must be the date that this thing left the factory! Clearly HP's warranty status checker is a scam. The tech confirmed it was out of warranty and offered to sell my a replacement HP product at a reduced price however he provided the warranty date they had on file (the online checker does not provide a date) and it was June 2009. It said I was out of warranty but I contacted tech support anyway to see if they were doing anything special for this model's poor design. Overall Review: After being unable to fix the problem I checked the warranty status on HP's website. Wasted a week trying everything HP suggested. If you check HP forums you will find that this not at all an uncommon problem. It keeps the printer from doing anything else (you can still scan but it is a pain). Occasional paper jams evolved into frequent ones and finally into a "phantom" paper jam that will not go away. When it works it'd give it 4 eggs but that's not the whole story.Ĭons: There is a fundamental design flaw in this printer. The photos prints are pretty good and scanning over the network works well (though never got that work under OS X) and printing from or scanning to memory cards turns out to be a surprisingly indispensable feature. See what some of the other users have to say. Not the first one, not the replacement from HP. I have a home office and I need a reliable printer. Overall Review: HP used to be a reliable brand.
I'm looking for a replacement, and it WONT be an HP. I don't think this printer is going to get any better as time goes on. I finally got it to print again after about 20 minutes (I finally had to unplug it, the power button would not work). After 7 pages, it stopped with a half printed page hanging out. I tried to print an 11 page document today. It won't work until I press the OK button. It says it is out of paper, add paper and press OK. There is paper in the tray, but the printer doesn't know it. There was no paper jam, I followed instructions from HP support, but it NEVER printed again. One day it said it had a paper jam, and it never printed again. The first unit I got worked for about 5 or 6 months. The price is kind of high, since I have to replace it and it's not even a year old.Ĭons: Doesn't work.
